Scott Land Top Crown Acreage Buyer In First Half Of 2013!

July 9, 2013

Scott Land & Lease Ltd. was the top buyer of Crown land during the first six months of this year, spending $209 million, with nearly 80 per cent of that money dished out for acreage in Alberta.

The broker acquired 221,913 hectares in the first half of the year on behalf of its clients at an average price of $941.81. Scott Land picked up 186,753 hectares in Alberta during the period on bonus bids of $163.59 million.

The second most active Crown buyer during the first six months of 2013 was broker Standard Land Company Inc., which successfully picked up 100,729 hectares for $81.77 million at an average price of $811.76 per hectare. Most of its spending also occurred in Alberta where $53.85 million went to acquiring 82,912 hectares.

Third-place finisher Seven Generations Energy Ltd. spent $23.82 million acquiring 13,312 hectares at an average price of $1,789.03 during the first half of the year. The private producer was also the top company acquiring acreage under its own name during the period. All of its land was purchased in Alberta.

Seven Generations announced late last month that it had, in several separate transactions in June, acquired 56 square miles of rights in the Montney and other formations in the Grande Prairie region of west-central Alberta. The land will extend the company’s Kakwa River project and bring the net land holdings of the company (all in the Kakwa River project area) to approximately 357 sections, including approximately 331 sections of mineral rights in the Montney formation.

The company is engaged in the delineation and development of its Kakwa River project, a multi-zone, tight, rich gas project in the Alberta Deep Basin, approximately 100 kilometres south of Grand Prairie.
